On 24 and 25 Feb 2024, Jaipur witnessed the silver jubilee edition of the Vintage Car Exhibition and Rally at Jai Mahal Palace Hotel.
The exhibition & drive was organized by Rajputana Automotive Sports Car Club in association with Department of Tourism, Rajasthan.
120 vintage & classic cars (From 1913 to 1962) participated in this car rally and exhibition from all over India.

Approximately 100 royal vintage cars were from Jaipur and 20 cars were from other cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh, Gurugram, Baroda, and more.
This Vintage Car Show in Jaipur was like a real-life time machine! By looking at these classic gems, I could imagine an era of old cars. An era, when the cars were beautiful, classy, and telling a special story of their time.

History of Royal Vintage Car Exhibition and Rally
The vintage car show was started in the year 1996 with only 10 cars. In 2024, there are 120 vintage cars are displayed in this car exhibition.
This annual event is like a giant museum showcasing incredible cars from around the world.

Each car is like a piece of art, showing off the skill and creativity of people from the old times.

Vintage Cars – Proud Owners Preserving the History
But the show is more than just cars! It’s a celebration of preserving the history. The owners of the cars made strong efforts to keep these gems alive and running.
Had they made no effort to preserve these cars, we wouldn’t have seen such vintage beauties with our own eyes. Maybe in photos only.

Baby Hindustan 1958 Model, Only Vintage Car that runs Daily in Jaipur
I saw a beautiful green “Baby Hindustan” car 1958 model owned by ‘Dr. Girdhar Govil’. He bought this car in the year 1958. The car was manufactured in England and produces 10 HP power.
He did some long distance trips on his car form:
- Jaipur to Khajjar to Kashmir
- Jaipur to Dehradun
- Jaipur to Delhi
Today there are many good highways, tunnels and state highways that makes the journey to Dehradun and Kashmir easier. But taking this car to such difficult routes in those days was a very difficult task.
Dr. Govil drives his car everyday to go to work in the walled city of Jaipur. He is very happy to use his vintage Baby Hindustan car. He has well maintained his car. He believes this car is a part of his identity.
Among all the vintage cars in Jaipur, it is the only car that runs daily on Jaipur’s road.

History of Vintage Cars in Jaipur
Maharaja Madho Singh II bought the first vintage car in Jaipur. He passionately imported an Austin Singer Car through the sea route. He used to drive it in Jaipur and greet people.
The second vintage car in Jaipur was Studebaker. This sky-blue car was bought by Dr. Daljung Singh Khanka. The car had buggy-like seats and a lavish carpet on the footboard.
A huge crowd used to gather around the car when it came out on the road. Of course, a classy car on the road was a rare sight.
In that era, when a significant amount of cars were being imported to Jaipur, Verma Sale Company opened a petrol pump at Baaes Godam, Jaipur. In 1932, a tire shop and a car workshop were also opened. In 1939, the Vehicle Registration Act was introduced.
Sawai Man Singh and Gayatri Devi had a lot of cars including a stylish Ford’s jeep. Brigadier Bhawani Singh (Eldest son of Sawai Mansingh) bought a 1927 model Lanchester Baby Car. In his childhood, he used to drive this car in the City Palace of Jaipur.
In November 1992, Actor Dilip Kumar and Saira Bano came to Jaipur to buy a vintage car. He saw Jaipur on a UK-made Morris Cowley 1927 model.
Between 1914 and 1939, there were 40 vintage cars in Jaipur from companies like Morris Ford, Austin, Mercedez, Bentley, Sunburn, Rolls Royce, etc.
