On 1st January 2025, we visited Nevta Lake and spent two hours there. It felt fantastic to be away from the city’s chaos. Check out our experience and how you can plan to visit.
How did we reach Nevta Lake?

Our journey started from Jaipur’s outskirts. We always pick the ring road to reach Nevta Dam as it is convenient and traffic-free.
We got down from ‘ring road’ at Nevta Lake cut and drove towards SEZ road. Nevta Lake is big and the area around it is full of greenery.
There are many farms on both sides of the road. While driving on SEZ road We enjoyed looking at green farms. It uplifted our spirit.
After driving our car for a few kilometers, we turned right towards Nevta village. On the road cut, there is a signboard of ‘Saint Xavier’s School’.
From there, we drove slowly on the village road. It is a decently paved road.
Going through the village we saw some temples, chaupal area, an old haveli and a school near a huge banyan tree.

We picked the wrong road
We arrived near Saint Xavier’s School and drove on the unpaved road adjacent to the school boundary. The road condition was not good.
Although, it could be a good road for off-roading activities. Thar or Gurkha lovers can always pick the road for an adventure.
We took this road since we had used it during our previous visits before the renovation.
Before, this road was wide and many people used to arrive the dam via this road.
After slowly driving for 1 km, we reached the dam’s boundary but couldn’t find the way to enter. There was mud near the boundary so we turned back.

We are happy we didn’t enter the mud
We picked another unpaved road near the fencing of ‘Ram Sanjeevani Seva Sanstha Sant Bagichi’ but reached a dead end with a lot of mud.
We didn’t enter the mud. I was sure our car would get stuck. So, we returned from the same unpaved road to the main road.
We asked a few kids playing there “Where is the way to go to the dam?”
They pointed with their finger towards an entry gate. Me and my wife said thanks to those kids and moved towards the gate.
On the gate, it was written: “Way to go to the dam”. We completely missed looking at it while coming. Facepalm!
We are attaching the picture of the gate so that you don’t pick the wrong route.
Finally Reached the Nevta Dam
Anyway, We entered the gate and drove on the newly built paved road.
We reached the Nevta Dam parking which was newly built after the renovation. It was not there before.
There are well-built stairs ascending to the dam wall.
After reaching the dam’s wall we saw many benches and stone-carved fencing. There are Ghats also – perfect viewing spots for the lake’s beauty.
Blue waters mirroring the sky’s hues creates a mesmerizing scene at Nevta Lake.

Good picnic spot for families
We sat on a bench in the warm sunlight, sipping our home-made tea. It felt as if we were at our own lakeside house, enjoying the panoramic view from our private courtyard.
We saw some families and groups of young people having fun, playing cards, and drinking tea/coffee.
We also saw some guys fishing. One of them caught one fish. He looked happy.
I must say, Nevta Dam has become a great picnic spot now, especially for families.
Previously, when I came 2-3 times here, I didn’t see families.
All the time, I saw groups of boys and young college-going couples. So, it is a good change, that families are visiting this place also.

Car stuck in the mud patch
While we were walking on the dam’s wall I saw a Swift car stuck in the mud patch. It was the same spot I had avoided earlier. It was a group of young boys in the car. They struggled a lot but couldn’t get the car out of mud.
They were lucky that a JCB Backhoe Loader (JCB Machine) was resting near the dam. They called the JCB guy for help. Finally, he rescued their car.
I thanked myself that I didn’t enter in that mud patch.

We felt disappointed
Nevta Lake has been a favorite place for migratory birds. Last time when we came here, we saw hundreds of migratory birds. This time we only saw a few.
We suspect the increased human activity near the dam has caused migratory birds to move away from here.
Recent renovation, sound of machines, and workers interference – birds don’t like this.
The same disappointment happened to us when we visited Chandlai Lake on Tonk Road. This lake has also gone through renovation. We didn’t see migratory birds there either.

We returned after spending 2 hours
It got cold when the sun was about to set. Also, a bit of cold wind started flowing. So, we got inside our car and returned to home.
We enjoyed our two-hour visit to Nevta Dam. It offered a perfect escape from city life.
Nevta Dam shows us that beautiful places can exist away from popular tourist spots. You just need to travel a bit outside the city to find these hidden treasures.

Important points you should remember when visiting Nevta Lake.
- Don’t enter into the lake. Bathing, boating, entering into the lake water are prohibited.
- Be aware of your surroundings. We observed some visitors consuming alcohol in the parking area during daytime hours, despite the presence of families and children. They also littered the area with bottles, which is both unsafe and disrespectful to this natural space.
- Return before it gets dark. There are no guards and people come to Nevta Lake to drink. I saw many liquor bottles near the lake.
- Carry water, snacks, and tea/coffee with you. There is only one thadi (tea stall) at the initial entry gate.
- Don’t throw garbage in the lake. Bring back your trash with you and throw it in the dustbin. Please.
- There is no public transport available. You can only come here by private vehicle (Car/Bike).
